Explosion in a market in Pakistan, nine dead and dozens injured

At least nine people were killed and more than 20 others were injured as a result of an explosion on Tuesday in a market in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a local administration official told Anadolu.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the explosion occurred in the town of Sarai Naurang, Lakki Marwat district.

“I am currently in hospital. and so far nine bodies have been brought in. At least 22 injured people are receiving medical treatment,” he added.

Among the dead are two police officers, the official said, adding that authorities have yet to confirm the nature of the blast.

So far no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the blast, while rescue teams have continued to dispatch wounded in nearby hospitals.

Pakistan’s northwestern regions have seen an increase in militant attacks in recent years, particularly targeting security forces and civilians.

Islamabad has repeatedly accused the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group of operating from safe havens in neighboring Afghanistan.

Kabul, however, has denied the allegations, saying the group has no presence. on Afghan soil.
