Decisive week for the president, Haxhiu: I hope a consensus will be reached

The acting president of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, has emphasized that the following weeks are crucial for reaching a political agreement for the election of the president, opposing the possibility of going to extraordinary elections.

She has called for political parties to intensify meetings and commit to a common solution, emphasizing that the process can be concluded quickly if the political will exists.

“This week is decisive. I wish to start with meetings between political parties… if there is a will, it can be done within a few hours,” Haxhiu stated.

According to her, invitations for meetings are being made by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, while she added that she is ready to take such steps if requested by political entities.

“If political parties expect invitations from me as acting president, of course I will invite them, but I have not seen it. request,” she said.

Haxhiu emphasized that it is in the country’s interest to avoid new elections, given the internal challenges and international developments.

“I think it is very important that the country does not go to extraordinary elections, the citizens do not want elections at this moment,” she said.

Finally, she called for political unity, asking that the issue of the president be resolved through consensus, while other political debates are left for later.

Haxhiu made these comments after participating in the Memorial Academy on the occasion of the Day of Veterans of the Battle of Koshare and the anniversary of the fall of the hero Sali Çekaj. /
