Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said today that an end to the war on all fronts, including the cessation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon, is a “precondition” for ending the Iran-US-Israel war, Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported, reports Anadolu.
“Lebanon and Iran’s fronts became somehow linked and dependent on each other. From day one, the Islamic Republic of Iran considered the end of the war in Lebanon a precondition for ending the war with Iran,” Araghchi said at a meeting of international missions in the capital Tehran.
“Now that we have reached an end to the war, the end of the war will also be in Lebanon,” he said, calling the cease-fire in Lebanon “an integral part” of the recently announced agreement with the US.
The end of the war was announced Monday morning at Iran, Iran’s top diplomat said, adding that the memorandum of understanding will formally enter into force on Friday.
Upcoming talks between the US and Iran, set to begin Friday in Switzerland, will be divided into two phases, Araghchi said, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.
He said the first phase would address issues including the Strait of Hormuz, maritime restrictions and post-conflict reconstruction of Iran’s infrastructure, while the second phase will focus on nuclear issues and sanctions relief to be resolved in a final deal.
