Israel kills Palestinian fisherman and injures 7 others in Gaza despite ceasefire

Wednesday, May 20th 2026

A Palestinian fisherman was killed and seven people were wounded today in new Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, marking a fresh violation of the cease-fire that has been ongoing since last October, Anadolu reports.

A medical source said the fisherman was killed when Israeli warships opened fire on his fishing vessel in the Sheikh Ajleen area, southwest of Gaza City. Meanwhile, five people, including children, arrived at Al-Shifa hospital after an Israeli airstrike targeted a house in the Nasr neighborhood west of Gaza City, the medical source said.

Eyewitnesses said Israeli warplanes struck without warning, causing heavy damage to the house and the surrounding area and starting a fire that civil defense teams later brought under control. Two more Palestinians were wounded when an Israeli drone targeted a civilian gathering in the Mawasi area of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, the source added.

Israeli military vehicles stationed near the so-called “Yellow Line” opened fire on Palestinian areas east of Gaza City and east of Jabalia in northern Gaza.

The “Yellow Line” refers to the border where forces Israeli forces withdrew into Gaza as part of the second phase of a plan announced by US President Donald Trump to end the war in the enclave. The line separates areas under full Israeli military control.

The Israeli military has continued attacks across Gaza on an almost daily basis despite a ceasefire that took effect on October 10, 2025. According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, at least 880 people have been killed and 2,605 wounded in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire.

The ceasefire agreement was reached after Israel’s two-year war that has killed more than 72,000 Palestinians, injured more than 172,000 and caused massive destruction affecting 90 percent of civilian infrastructure.
