Turkey’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, in a phone call discussed with his Greek counterpart, Giorgos Gerapetritis, about Israel’s attack on the Sumud Global Flotilla, reports Anadolu.

According to Turkish diplomatic sources, Fidan held a telephone conversation with Gerapetritis, during which the Israeli interference with the aid flotilla was discussed.

The spring mission of the year 2026 of the Sumud Global Flotilla, which aims to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid, departed from Barcelona on April 12.

After an additional visit to Sicily, the flotilla resumed its journey on April 26.

On the evening of April 29, Israeli forces carried out what was described as illegal intervention in international waters off the coast of Crete, targeting ships carrying activists.

According to flotilla officials, there were 345 participants from 39 countries on board, including Turkish nationals.

In a previous attempt in September 2025, Israeli forces also stopped the Sumud Global Flotilla in international waters in the Mediterranean, detaining activists and seizing the ships.
