Former Serbian police officer Shaqir Lutvija was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for war crimes in a retrial.

The decision was taken on Tuesday at the Basic Court in Pristina.

Lutvija, in November 2025, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for war crimes committed almost three decades ago.

Lutvija has been made responsible for repressive measures murder, arrest, beating, mistreatment and inhumane treatment, carried out as an inspector and policeman in the police station of this city, together with other persons.

However, the Court of Appeal in June of this year had returned the case to a retrial.

The Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Kosovo on September 4, 2024 filed an indictment against Shaqir Lutvija, who was accused of being an inspector and policeman in The Police Station in Prizren, individually and in collaboration with other members of the Serbian police force, during the time period 1998-1999, in Prizren, during the war in Kosovo, exercised the repressive measures of murder, arrest, beating, mistreatment and inhuman treatment.

The indictment says that according to the testimony of the witnesses: Murat Kabashi, Elmi Gashi, Sefer Ejupi, Vehbi Velija, Qemajl Kollari, Ukë Kolgeci, Haxhi Gashi, Safet Gashi, Hasan Shala and Arsim Zyba, the accused Lutvija from September 28, 1998 to October 7, 1998, in collaboration with other members of the police force, have undertaken a campaign for their arrest in Prizren prison, in the capacity of the civilian population of Albanian nationality, among whom were: R.J., and seniors.
