Classes have resumed at a school in Syria’s Idlib province, which was damaged during the war and later restored with the support of Turkey, reports Anadolu.
The school in Muhambil settlement was repaired after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime through the cooperation between Asma Kopru International Students Association and Sefirei Alem International Students Association.
The building, previously used as a prison and later bombed by regime forces, it was renovated after local residents who returned to the area sought support from Turkish civil society organizations.
The restored school, called Hikmet Primary School, includes 11 classrooms, a science room and two administrative offices.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Turkey’s Consul General in Aleppo, Muammer Hakan Cengiz, said the project reflects broader efforts to reconstruction.
“We are at the beginning of a new war here – the war to rebuild Syria. Our support from Turkey in the field of education continues,” Cengiz said.
Officials said infrastructure, including schools, suffered severe damage during the war, emphasizing the importance of education in the reconstruction effort.
According to organizers, about 800 students are expected to attend this school.
