The former president and candidate of the Democratic League of Kosovo for president, Vjosa Osmani, has stated that she will not be president again and that her name will not be an obstacle to the formation of new institutions.
“No, this does not mean that I will be in the position of president again. I am not insisting nor am I asking for such a thing. As I have said publicly before, my name will not be in any way obstacle to the creation of Kosovo’s institutions”, Osmani declared for the German medium Deutsche Welle.
Regarding the relations with the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, Osmani has described them as “simply normal political differences in democracy”.
As for the accusations that Kurti is creating blockades, Osmani said that the citizens have clearly spoken asking for “coalitions”.
Regarding the fact that a large number of citizens boycotted the extraordinary parliamentary elections of 7 June, Osmani said that their message was clear.
“Because the message of the citizens has been much clearer than last time: they want political forces to cooperate to create institutions. The lower participation, and especially the large boycott that has not been seen for a long time, is a clear message to everyone that repeating the process will only increase the boycott”.
“Also, it is important that this message has created a democratic balancing of forces in the institutions, so that no one can create the institutions alone”.
She requested that all political parties understand that compromise is the way forward and that the institutions must be formed as soon as possible.
“It is frustrating for the country that is not able to move forward with very important internal processes, but it is also frustrating for the Euro-Atlantic integration process, which is slowing down due to crises after crises after these elections”.
In three pairs of elections that were held in Kosovo within 16 months, the Vetëvendosje Movement managed to come out first, although in the elections of February 2025 and in the elections of June 7 with a lower result.
While in the elections of December last year, it managed to win over 50 percent of the votes, thus scoring a convincing victory in the country.
