The Democratic Union for Integration (BDI) has informed that its chairman, Ali Ahmeti, has sent an open letter to international partners and friends regarding the latest political developments in the Republic of North Macedonia.
According to the announcement, the letter – dated April 3, 2026 – has been forwarded not only to local and international opinion, but also to the ambassadors of the European Union member states accredited in the country, as well as world leaders and well-known international personalities.
In its introduction, Ahmeti emphasizes DUI’s continued commitment to the full implementation of the Ohrid Agreement, the building of a democratic and multi-ethnic state, as well as the advancement of the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
He expresses concern about recent political developments, which, according to him, endanger these achievements. In particular, the removal of the balancer mechanism for fair representation of communities, the challenges in the functioning of the institutions that implement the Law on the Use of Languages, as well as the initiatives to contest this law in the Constitutional Court are mentioned.
The letter has been addressed to a wide range of international leaders, including US President Donald Trump, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Chancellor German Friedrich Merz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, as well as former US President George W. Bush.
Also, it has been sent to representatives of international organizations and senior diplomats, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and other EU, NATO, UN and OSCE officials.
The list of addressees also includes former representatives and prominent international personalities such as George Robertson, Federica Mogherini, Javier Solana, Victoria Nuland and others.
Through this letter, Ahmeti requests the commitment and continued support of international partners for preserving the achievements of the Ohrid Agreement, strengthening political stability and advancing the Euro-Atlantic perspective of the country.
