American congressmen Keith Self and Suhas Subramanyam will conduct an official visit on Tuesday to the Presevo Valley and then to Kosovo, where they will meet representatives of state institutions, security authorities and representatives of Albanians in the region.

The mayor of Presevo, Ardita Siani, has said that this is a historic moment for the Presevo Valley.

The visit, according to the Albanians For America organization, is aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between the United States of America and Kosovo, the discussion of regional security developments and the support of the rights of Albanians in the region.

As part of the agenda in Kosovo, the delegation will hold meetings with representatives of the central institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as with American and international security authorities at Camp Bondsteel. Meetings with representatives of civil society and the media have also been announced.

After the visit to Kosovo, the congressmen will stay in the Presheva Valley, where they will meet representatives of the Albanian National Council, Albanian political leaders and leaders of the municipalities of Presheva and Bujanovac. The focus of the discussions will be the rights of Albanians in the Valley, the political developments and the challenges faced by the Albanian community there.

The organization emphasized that the visit takes place in a period of increased commitment of the American Congress for security and stability in the Western Balkans, as well as for the advancement of the Euro-Atlantic integration of Kosovo.

Otherwise, Keith Self this year has presented to the American Congress a legal initiative for the assessment of discrimination against Albanians in Presevo, Bujanoc and Medvegja. He has also publicly supported Kosovo’s membership in NATO, calling it a key factor for regional stability.

Just three weeks ago, Self, together with Ritchie Torres and Mike Laëler, presented a resolution in the House of Representatives expressing support for Kosovo’s integration into NATO.

Finally, Albanians For America expressed gratitude for the continued commitment of American congressmen in support of the Albanian issue, regional stability and partnership between the American and Albanian people.
