Belgium summoned Israel’s ambassador for consultation today due to the “deeply disturbing” and “unacceptable” treatment of Gaza-bound flotilla activists by Israeli Minister of National Security and coalition partner Itamar Ben-Gvir, demanding the immediate release of the detainees, reports Anadolu.

“The images circulating about the treatment of flotilla activists are deeply disturbing. People held hostage, tied up, forced to stand face down, and a government minister who broadcasts their humiliation on social media,” Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot wrote on the American social platform X.

Prevot said there were Belgians among the detainees and described the situation as a violation of “the most basic standards of human dignity”.

“All detainees must be treated with dignity and released without delay,” he added. he.

The foreign minister said he has requested that Israel’s ambassador to Belgium be summoned “to express our indignation and seek clarification”.

“The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains catastrophic and requires the full attention of the international community. Belgium is and will remain active in raising this issue through every diplomatic channel,” he said.

The statement came after Ben-Gvir released a video captioned “Welcome in Israel,” which featured activists detained, seized by Israeli forces in international waters, tied up and forced to kneel.

The global humanitarian flotilla Sumud said on Tuesday that all 50 ships in its aid convoy were seized by Israel. Together, they were carrying 428 people from 44 countries, having set out from Marmaris, Turkey, in a new attempt to break the illegal Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza since 2007.
