Erdoğan: Supplying Syria with gas from Turkey and Azerbaijan contributes to development and security

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, said on Monday that the gas supply to Syria, launched through a joint Turkish-Azerbaijani initiative, will support the country’s development and regional security. on the occasion of the opening of Energy Week in Baku.

Erdoğan said that recent developments in the region have once again proven the importance of the energy steps taken together with Azerbaijan and that both countries have realized a number of major projects that were once considered impossible for the region.

He mentioned the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas and oil pipeline projects. and the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP), which were started with Azerbaijan and completed with the contribution of Georgia.

Cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan has been further deepened through the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli and Shah Deniz partnerships, while the new partnership in the Shafag-Asiman field shows that bilateral energy cooperation continues without slowing down, he added.

Erdoğani added. said that the Igdir-Nakhchivan gas pipeline, put into operation last year, has strengthened the security of energy supply of the Nakhchivan region in Azerbaijan.

Energy links between Turkey and Azerbaijan remain of strategic importance, he said, adding that the Green Energy Transmission and Trade project between Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Bulgaria is expected to contribute to energy security of the wider region.

Speaking of regional energy corridors, Erdoğan said that there are great opportunities for increased cooperation in the export of Turkmen gas through Azerbaijan and Turkey.

He added that the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline is increasingly being used to transport Kazakhstan’s natural resources to Western markets.

According to Erdoğan, Turkey has a vision to ensure effectiveness in all dimensions of energy, including renewable and green energy, based on efficiency and respect for the environment.

He added that Turkey will strengthen its determination to be among the leading and exemplary countries in global climate action by hosting the COP31 summit in Antalya from November 9 to 20.
