Haxhiu decrees Zejnullah Gashi as the new chief prosecutor of the State

The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, has decreed Zejnullah Gashi to the position of Chief State Prosecutor.

The decree comes only one day after the Prosecutorial Council of Kosovo, in its 298th meeting, nominated Gashi for this post and forwarded the name to the Acting President for decree.

In the race for the position of Chief Prosecutor of There were five candidates for the state: Atdhe Dema, Naim Abazi, Rafet Halimi, Shqipdon Fazliu and Zejnullah Gashi.

The news about the decree was announced by Haxhiu himself through a post on Facebook.

“Today I met Mr. Zejnulla Gashi, to whom I submitted the decree for the appointment to the position of Chief State Prosecutor,” wrote Haxhiu.

She announced that, before making the decision, a full review of the documentation sent by the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council was conducted.

“After accepting the proposal and documentation from the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council, a careful and comprehensive review of the submitted materials was made, including also the relevant information provided by the competent security institutions and the reports of the organizations that monitored the selection process. Taking into account the importance of this function and the need for the full functioning of the justice institutions, I acted in accordance with constitutional and legal responsibilities,” she said.

Haxhiu emphasized the importance of the function of the State Prosecutor, describing it as one of the main pillars of the rule of law and the protection of the constitutional order.

“I wished Mr. Gashi success in exercising this high state responsibility. The function of the State Prosecutor is one of the main pillars of the rule of law and the protection of the constitutional order.”
