Indonesia has suspended all discussions on the proposed “Peace Board” initiative, launched by US President Donald Trump, citing the military escalation in the Middle East, reports Anadolu.

As reported by the ‘Middle East Monitor’, Indonesian chief diplomat Sugiono said that the decision was taken in response to recent developments in the region.

He said that the escalation has directly affected the foreign policy priorities of the countries of involved in this initiative.

Sugiono explained that international attention has shifted to the consequences of the conflict involving Iran.

He added that Indonesia will conduct intensive consultations with partners in the Gulf region, who, according to him, are directly affected by the ongoing attacks and rising tensions.

Indonesia’s participation in this initiative has also faced criticism from political and religious groups within The country.

Critics argue that joining a council led by President Trump’s administration could undermine Indonesia’s long-standing stance in support of the Palestinian cause.

In the same context, Indonesia’s Ulema Council called for an immediate withdrawal from this initiative.

The council said the proposed body has no effectiveness while military operations in the region continue.

According to ‘Middle East Monitor’, the decision to suspend participation comes at a time when regional tensions remain high and diplomatic discussions about this initiative are facing increasing scrutiny.
