According to experts, a large number of people experience foot pain during their lifetime. For some it is a temporary concern, while for others it can become a constant and limiting problem in everyday life, writes Metro.
British podiatrist Marion Yau says that one of the most common reasons for foot pain in the early hours of the morning is plantar fasciitis, also known as plantar fasciopathy.
This condition affects the plantar fascia, a strong band of connective tissue that extends from the bottom of the foot, from the heel to the toes. When this tissue becomes overworked or begins to be damaged, pain occurs, usually in the heel area.
Experts say that plantar fasciitis can be caused by:
Using shoes without enough support;
Shoes that rotate excessively inward while walking;
Strained calf muscles, which increase the pressure on the plantar fascia.
The most characteristic sign is pain that is felt more hard during the first steps in the morning or after a long period of sitting. Usually, it starts to subside after a few minutes of walking.
The pain can be felt in the heel, in the arch of the foot or along the entire sole. People describe it as:
If in addition to pain you also feel burning, numbness or tingling sensations, experts warn that the problem may be related to nerves and not necessarily plantar fasciitis.
For an accurate diagnosis, doctors recommend specialist check-ups and examinations such as ultrasound, since leg pain can have different causes.
Even if the pain goes away during the day, specialists emphasize that the problem should not be ignored. Without proper treatment, symptoms may return repeatedly and worsen over time.
