Iran is still reviewing the final text of a possible deal with the US and no response has yet been sent, Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency reported, citing a source familiar with the matter, Anadolu reported.
“Iran is seeking to achieve real and tangible benefits,” the source added, saying that “the history of US disrespect and historical mistrust” has made Tehran view the issue as “very strictly”.
Tensions in the Middle East have escalated since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran in February. Tehran retaliated with attacks targeting Israel and US allies in the Persian Gulf, along with closing the Strait of Hormuz.
A cease-fire took effect on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, but subsequent talks in Islamabad failed to produce lasting agreements. However, efforts at a solution have continued since then.
One of Iran’s conditions for ending the war permanently is an end to fighting on all fronts, including in Lebanon, where the latest Israeli offensive has been ongoing since early March.
US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he has asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to withdraw his troops from Beirut.
