Qatar Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani today called on all parties to respond to the mediation efforts led by Pakistan to end the US-Iran conflict, during a telephone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart Shehbaz Sharif, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said, Anadolu reports.
During the conversation, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized “the need for all parties to respond to these efforts to create the right conditions.” for progress in negotiations, leading to a comprehensive agreement that brings lasting peace to the region,” said the ministry’s statement on the American social platform X.
He also expressed Doha’s “full” support for Islamabad’s efforts, according to the ministry.
“These efforts contributed to the achievement of a ceasefire” between Washington and Tehran, he emphasized during the call.
Sheikh Mohammed and Sharif also reviewed relations bilateral and ways to develop them further, the ministry added.
Regional tensions have escalated since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28, prompting Tehran to retaliate against Israel and US allies in the Persian Gulf, as well as closing the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire took effect on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, but talks in Islamabad failed to produce a lasting agreement. The ceasefire was then extended by Donald Trump without a specific deadline, paving the way for diplomacy towards a permanent solution to the conflict.
