The Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, has informed by phone the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Russian forces have launched systematic attacks against military targets used by the Ukrainian army in Kiev, reports Anadolu.

“On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Sergey Lavrov officially informed the American side that, in response to the continuous attacks of the Kiev regime against the civilian population and infrastructure in Russia, the armed forces of the Russian Federation are launching attacks systematic and continuous attacks against military facilities and relevant decision-making centers in Kiev,” Russian news agency Tass reported, citing a Foreign Ministry statement.

The statement added that Lavrov also asked the U.S. to ensure the evacuation of its diplomatic staff and other American citizens from the Ukrainian capital.

Lavrov also said that during high-level talks in Anchorage in August 2025, agreements had been reached regarding the “Ukrainian conflict.” and expressed regret that “the arrogant efforts of the European elites and the Kiev regime are undermining these agreements, which paved the way for a long-term and stable solution based on the balance of interests”.

“The chief diplomats also exchanged views on diplomatic initiatives aimed at overcoming the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and on the situation around Cuba”, it was further announced.

Lavrov and Rubio have also reaffirmed their commitment to improving the functioning of the Russian and American diplomatic missions in each other’s countries, “regardless of the existing differences”, the ministry emphasized.

The USA has not yet issued a statement regarding the telephone conversation between the two diplomats.
