After a series of accidents, including Sunday’s fatal accident where a woman lost her life, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has announced that contracts have been signed for the repair of escarpments on the R7 “Ibrahim Rugova” highway.
In some segments of this highway, landslides have narrowed the traffic lanes, raising ongoing concerns about traffic safety. In the last few days, there were numerous reactions from road safety experts, who requested urgent intervention for the removal of soil and the remediation of problematic areas.
According to the announcement of the ministry, after the end of the procurement procedures and the examination of complaints by the Procurement Review Body (PRB), the contracts for three separate lots have been signed:
Lot 1 – Remediation of the landslide at kilometer 72.4, with value 2,087,952.94 euros;
Lot 2 – Remediation of landslides in kilometers 69.1 and 63.4, worth 1,187,080.09 euros;
Lot 3 – Landslide repair at kilometer 44.0, worth 1,398,964.85 euros.
The total value of the project amounts to 4,673,997.88 euros.
The Ministry has announced that the mobilization of economic operators and the start of the works are expected to take place in the coming days.
Responding to recent criticism, the Ministry emphasized that the project has been under consideration at the PRB and that there was no legal opportunity to influence the decision-making process until the procedures were completed.
