The Kosovo Bar Association (KAO) has announced that the process of closing the Detention Center in Gjilan has begun, following the official announcement by the Kosovo Correctional Service.
According to the KAO, this process is taking place within the framework of the implementation of the Treaty between the Republic of Kosovo and the Kingdom of Denmark for the use of this facility for the execution of sentences imposed by the Danish authorities.
“From the Kosovo Correctional Service we are officially announced that the process of closing the Detention Center in Gjilan has begun”, says the announcement of the Chamber of Advocates of Kosovo.
According to the announcement, the gradual transfer of persons deprived of their liberty from this center to other correctional institutions has already begun.
“The process will be developed in stages, in accordance with the security assessments, accommodation capacities and operational needs of the Kosovo Correctional Service”, he announced. KCA.
The Chamber of Advocates of Kosovo has called on the lawyers who represent persons deprived of their liberty, who until now have been located in the Detention Center in Gjilan, to verify in advance the new location of their clients.
“In order to avoid procedural delays and guarantee the effective exercise of the defense, the Chamber of Advocates of Kosovo informs all the lawyers who represent persons deprived of their liberty who until now have been placed in the Detention Center in Gjilan, to verify in advance the correctional institution in which their clients are located”, says the announcement.
According to the KCA, this announcement aims to timely inform the community of lawyers and facilitate communication with clients during the transition period.
