The Acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, received today in a meeting the executive director of the Institute of Crimes Committed During the War in Kosovo (IKKL), Atdhe Hetemi.
The latter submitted to Kurti the six-month work report for the period November 2025 – May 2026.
According to the announcement by the Prime Minister, during the meeting the progress achieved in the documentation, research and institutionalization of historical memory related to the crimes committed during the war in Kosovo, as well as the importance of strengthening state capacities in the function of transitional justice and the preservation of historical truth.
“Director Hetemi informed the Prime Minister in office of the main projects and developments of the Institute during this period, among which the work for the preparation of databases of victims of the last war in Kosovo, the database of massacres and that of mass cemeteries – processes of national and special importance historical events, which are being undertaken for the first time in the Republic of Kosovo in a centralized, verified and institutional manner”, says the announcement.
It is further said that these databases will serve as a stable basis for documentation, scientific research, education and institutional addressing of war crimes.
According to the announcement, the organization of the international conference “From War to Recovery: A Multidisciplinary Approach Towards Kosovo’s War Trauma”, with the participation of over 200 researchers, experts and local, regional and international institutional representatives, as evidence of the academic and international scope of the Institute’s work.
” Acting Prime Minister Kurti thanked director Hetemi and the staff of the Institute for their dedication and work, appreciating the role of the IKKL in documenting war crimes, preserving historical memory and building a reliable base of facts for future generations. He emphasized that justice for victims, institutional documentation and the protection of historical truth remain a state and social obligation of the Republic of Kosovo”, the announcement continues.
