Italian journalist Alessandro Mantovani has made it known that he was beaten and handcuffed by Israeli forces after the intervention of the Global Flotilla “Sumud” that was headed towards Gaza, reports Anadolu.

According to the ANSA agency, Mantovani and M5S lawmaker Dario Carotenuto, who were in the flotilla, returned to Rome airport on a commercial flight from Athens.

“They beat me, Dario Carotenuto, and the others were beaten even worse than us. I saw people with suspected broken arms and ribs,” Mantovani told Fatto Quotidiano.

He said the boarding operation was much more violent than before and stressed that he and Carotenuto were handcuffed and handcuffed after being held in a cell and before being transferred to Ben Gurion airport.

“They took my pants, where I had my wallet, and they never gave them back. Then they beat us. I also saw women being hit. This is because Israel is protected by the governments of half of Europe, including ours,” Mantovani said.

He also said that Israeli forces opened fire twice during the intervention “with several types of bullets.”

On Tuesday, the Global Flotilla Sumud said all 50 of its ships had been seized by Israel.

The flotilla, with 428 activists from 44 countries, had set out on Thursday from the Turkish district of Marmaris in an attempt to break the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip since 2007.
