The United Kingdom has summoned the Israeli envoy to express concern and seek explanations regarding the treatment of the activists of the Global Flotilla “Sumud” that was heading towards Gaza, reports Anadolu.

“The call reflects the strong condemnation of the United Kingdom.” for his behavior in mocking the participants of the Sumud Global Flotilla. This behavior violates the most basic standards of respect and dignity for people,” the Foreign Office said.

“We are also deeply concerned about the conditions of the detention presented and have asked for explanations from the Israeli authorities,” she added.

The Foreign Office emphasized that it has made clear its obligations to protect the rights of all involved.

Noting that The flotilla’s effort to send aid shows the seriousness of the humanitarian situation in Gaza, she said, adding that Israel must ensure that aid enters more safely and by land.

It also said it is in contact with the families of some British citizens and is ready to provide consular support.

Israeli forces attacked the aid mission in international waters on Monday and detained all activists in board.

The flotilla, with 428 people from 44 countries, had set off on Thursday from the Turkish district of Marmaris in a new attempt to break the blockade on the Gaza Strip since 2007.
