Paris Mayor Emmanuel Gregoire plans to seek honorary citizenship status for Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the West Bank as well as for Palestinian journalists, Le Parisien reported today, Anadolu reports.

Gregoire is expected to present the proposal to the Paris Council in June, according to the mayor’s office quoted by Le Nouvel Obs.

“Paris has always associated his name.” with peoples’ freedom and human dignity. He chooses civilians over violence, law over arbitrariness, life over destruction,” the mayor’s office said.

The office also emphasized the importance of respecting Palestinian journalists, saying that “respecting them means respecting societies’ fundamental right to know the truth.”
