The President of Montenegro, Jakov Millatović, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the restoration of independence, said that the duty of the state is to transform independence into a better quality of life for citizens, freedom into justice and the European perspective into concrete results, reports Anadolu.
In congratulating the citizens, Millatović said that the time has come for society to show political and institutional maturity, stressing the need for laws to apply equally to everyone, regardless of city, status or function.
“Twenty years after the restoration of independence, we are old enough to pass the maturity test, so that the laws apply equally in Podgorica, Pljevlja, Nikšić, Rozhaja, Ulcinj and Cetina, as well as for all citizens, without exception”, he said.
He added that the state must provide quality education, an efficient health system and equal opportunities for young people, in order to their departure from the country is prevented, emphasizing that honest work should take precedence over political and personal ties.
Millatović recalled that the citizens entrusted him with the mandate three years ago to protect the Constitution and strengthen independent institutions, emphasizing that he will continue to return laws that, according to him, are contrary to the Constitution and the interest of the state and citizens.
“I will continue to return laws that violate The Constitution and that are against the interest of citizens, because responsibility is key when institutions try to hide behind political trade”, he said.
Speaking of the European perspective, he announced the arrival of European leaders in Tivat, stressing that Montenegro has ambitions to become a member of the EU as a regulated, solidary and economically strong state.
He added that such a state means functional justice, quality education, accessible health and service institutions. of citizens.
“Montenegro is our common home, which is preserved with work, order and responsibility. Happy Independence Day. May Montenegro live forever,” said Millatović.
Montenegro restored its independence in the referendum held on May 21, 2006, when the majority of citizens voted to leave the state community with Serbia.
