The Greek leftist opposition party SYRIZA today accused the government of complicity after Israel attacked an aid flotilla to Gaza, describing it as an “illegal piracy operation”, reports Anadolu.

Referring to the interception that took place today in international waters just a few miles from Greek territorial waters, SYRIZA foreign policy chief Rena Dourou said that “The illegal operation of piracy took place within the search and rescue zone of Greece, with the absence of the Coast Guard and the Greek authorities”.

“The Greek government is complicit in an action that violates every concept of international law that has been carried out by the state of Israel, which is evolving into an excluded state acting to the detriment of peace and stability in the region”, she said.

“The Greek Prime Minister bears personal responsibility for Greece’s tolerance and cooperation to a state that is at war with Iran and Lebanon, the genocide in Gaza and contempt for any concept of international legitimacy. The Greek government is responsible and cooperative,” Dourou added.

The flotilla, carrying humanitarian aid, left two weeks ago from the Italian island of Sicily, with a total of 58 ships aiming to break Israel’s multi-year blockade of Gaza. Israel has imposed a devastating blockade on the Gaza Strip since 2007, leaving the territory’s population of 2.4 million on the brink of starvation.

The Israeli military launched a brutal two-year offensive in Gaza in October 2023, killing more than 72,000 people, injuring over 172,000 others and causing massive destruction across the territory. surrounded.
