Iranian national soccer players have received Mexican visas ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, reports Anadolu.
As reported by state broadcaster IRIB, Iran’s ambassador to Turkey, Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh, said the visas were issued after consultations with the Mexican Embassy in Ankara.
“Visas for the Iranian national team players were issued within 48 hours, without the need to players to appear in person and without fingerprinting at the Mexican Embassy,” Habibollahzadeh said.
This development comes a day after a senior Iranian soccer official said the federation expects visas to be issued by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.
“We expect visas for the Iranian national team players to be issued tonight or tomorrow morning,” spokesman Amir Mehdi Alavi told state media. of the Iran Football Federation.
According to him, the Iranian national team delegation is expected to leave on June 6 for the Mexican city of Tijuana.
The visa issue had emerged as one of Iran’s main concerns ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
Iran recently moved pre-World Cup training camp from the United States in Mexico, where the team is expected to stay before traveling to the tournament matches.
The Iranian international has been holding a training camp in the Turkish resort city of Antalya since May 19 as part of preparations for the World Cup.
