Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ferit Hoxha, has stated that support for the integration of the Western Balkans remains broad and consolidated, Anadolu reports.
The Assembly of Albania is holding a plenary session on the progress of the integration and membership process of the Republic of Albaniä in the European Union.
In his speech at the parliamentary session, Hoxha said that the European Union’s attitude towards enlargement remains one of the strategic priorities. of the EU, according to him also as a need for more stability and security on the continent.
“Our relations with the European Union and the member countries have never been closer, more concrete, more substantive and more promising than today. At the basis of this relationship naturally lies the process of negotiation for membership, a process, as rightly said, based on merit, where concrete results and real reforms remain the only criteria of evaluation by the European Union”, he said Hoxha.
He adds that Albania has consolidated its position as one of the two vanguard countries of the expansion process in the Western Balkans, together with Montenegro.
“The support for the integration of the Western Balkans remains broad and consolidated. Whenever, wherever expansion in the Western Balkans is talked about, Albania is also mentioned. It is also mentioned our objective to close the negotiations within the year 2027 and to joined the EU in the 2030 horizon”, said the chief diplomat Hoxha.
Meanwhile, the former minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the chairman of the Commission for Europe and Foreign Affairs in the Parliament of Albania, Igli Hasani, presented a draft resolution on the process of European integration that is expected to be approved during today’s parliamentary session.
