The US today announced an additional $1.8 billion in humanitarian funding to support UN-led relief efforts around the world, Anadolu reports.
Speaking at a press conference, the US envoy to the UN, Mike Waltz, said the funds will support humanitarian operations while advancing reforms focused on accountability and efficiency.
“We are very pleased today, again together with the US Under Secretary of State, Jeremy Lewin, and (UN) Under-Secretary-General Tom Fletcher to announce an additional $1.8 billion in humanitarian funding,” Waltz said.
“These funds will save more lives around the world, but they will also advance the reforms we have set for efficiency, accountability and long-term impact,” he added.
In a statement released by his spokesman, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has welcomed the announcement, saying the funding “will enable humanitarians to reach millions of people in the most urgent crises with vital aid”.
