Representatives of the opposition in the Municipal Assembly (KK) of Prizren from the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic Union (BD) declared that they were not aware of the Commission for the evaluation of the performance of the current principals and vice-principals of schools and the involvement of Arben Shala. work and not even on the agenda of the KK, writes Gazeta e Prizren.
The same position was expressed by Shukri Quni, head of the Group of Assemblymen of the BD, who said that not even the entity he represents was aware of this process.
This issue has brought attention back to the decision of the KK, which three weeks ago approved the formation of the selection committee of the Municipal Directorate of Education (for the appointment of principals and vice principals of schools). The name of the representative of civil society, Arben Shala, did not appear in the composition presented at the time, which was interpreted as a withdrawal from his involvement in sensitive processes of the education sector.
The Directorate of Education declared for the Prizren Gazette that the relevant Commission was established in harmony with the primary and secondary education legislation.
The name of Shala was mentioned earlier in public debates related to educational processes in Prizren. About three years ago, he became part of the controversy after the publication of an audio-recording in the media related to the process of selecting school directors.
At that time, the opposition parties LDK and Lévizja Vetëvendosje reacted by asking for clarifications regarding the process and raising claims for subsidies received up to nearly 50 thousand euros, “from a non-governmental organization related to Shala”. These claims had become part of the political debate, while it is not known about any official decision that would have confirmed them.
