Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic will pay an official visit to China from May 24 to 28, at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced.
The visit is considered an important step in strengthening strategic relations between Serbia and China, two countries that in recent years have deepened cooperation in the economy, infrastructure, technology and international politics.
During his stay in China, the Serbian president is expected to hold high-level meetings with Chinese leaders, where the focus will be on infrastructure projects, Chinese investments in Serbia, as well as the expansion of commercial and industrial cooperation.
Special attention is expected to be paid to the Chinese initiative “One Belt, One Road”, in which Serbia is considered a key partner in the Balkan region.
China is among the largest foreign investors in Serbia, with numerous projects in the energy sector, mining, transport and steel industry. Cooperation between the two countries has intensified especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, during which Beijing offered medical aid and vaccines to Belgrade.
Analysts estimate that this visit will also serve to coordinate political positions in the international arena, at a time when global tensions and geopolitical rivalries are increasingly affecting international relations. Serbia continues to maintain close ties with China and Russia, while at the same time aiming for integration into the European Union.
Vucic’s visit to China is seen as another signal of further rapprochement between Belgrade and Beijing, confirming the strategic partnership that both sides consider of particular importance for their long-term interests.
