Iran has accused the US and Israel of military aggression, calling the attacks a violation of its sovereignty and Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, reports Anadolu.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the attacks targeted defense infrastructure and civilian objects in several cities and occurred at a time when Tehran and Washington were engaged in a diplomatic process.

It emphasized that Iran had given prioritize diplomacy to avoid war, but “now is the time to defend the homeland”, stressing that the armed forces will respond in a “decisive and powerful” manner.

Tehran asserted the right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and called on the UN Security Council and the international community to condemn the joint US-Israeli attack and take urgent action.

Israel and The US launched a joint attack on Iran earlier today, saying it was aimed at eliminating alleged threats from the “Iranian regime”,
