The Organization of Veterans of the War of the Liberation Army of Kosovo has reacted after the judgment of the Special Court in The Hague against the former leaders of the KLA, strongly opposing the decision. On Wednesday, the Special Court sentenced Hashim Thaci and Jakup Krasniqi to 25 years in prison, Kadri Veseli to 18 years and Rexhep Selimi to 13 years in prison. They were found guilty of war crimes, while the court found the existence of a joint criminal enterprise. In its reaction, OVL-UÇK said that it categorically opposes the decision and denied that the UÇK was a criminal organization. "The UÇK was never a criminal enterprise. It was the organized resistance of a people in the face of invasion, expulsion and massacre", the reaction says. The veterans stated that the verdict, according to them, affects not only the former leaders of the KLA, but also the families of the martyrs and all those who contributed to the fight for the liberation of Kosovo. The OVL-KLA has described the process in The Hague as political, repeating its position that the Special Court was set up with political purposes. "From the beginning we have called it political this court and the process gave us the right", it is said among other things in the reaction. In conclusion, the organization said that no court decision, in its opinion, can change the history of the KLA war and the sacrifice of the people of Kosovo.
