The Specialized Chambers of Kosovo in The Hague have announced the verdict against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selim and Jakup Krasniqi. The Trial Body has found that all four accused are criminally responsible for war crimes related to the arbitrary detention of 385 people, the cruel treatment of 49 people, the torture of 303 people and the illegal killing of 96 people. On the other hand, the Trial Body has declared all four the accused of acquitted of crimes against humanity, as the Specialized Prosecutor failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a widespread or systematic attack against a civilian population had been committed. Also, according to the Court's communique, the accused have been found not guilty in connection with a number of other incidents charged as war crimes. The time spent in custody will also be counted in the sentences imposed.
