At least 40 people, including schoolgirls, were killed and 48 others were wounded after Israeli strikes targeted a girls’ primary school in the city of Minab in Iran’s southern Hormozgan province, Anadolu reported.
Citing a provincial official, Iranian broadcaster IRIB said the school was hit during attacks earlier in the day. No other details about the attack were released.
Earlier today, the US and Israel launched a joint attack on Iran, claiming to aim to eliminate “threats” posed by Iranian authorities.
Separate video statements were released by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, which also hinted at support for government change efforts in Tehran.
Iran described the attacks as a violation of sovereignty, vowed to respond and launched retaliatory attacks.
The developments came as Oman was brokering talks between Washington and Tehran on Iran’s nuclear program, with the latest round being held on Thursday in Geneva.
