King Charles III said today that Great Britain faces increasing risks from an “increasingly dangerous and unstable world”, citing the conflict in the Middle East as a recent example, Anadolu reports.
“An increasingly dangerous and unstable world threatens the United Kingdom with the conflict in the Middle East just the latest example,” Charles said during a speech at the state opening of Parliament.
He emphasized that every element of energy security, defense and economy of the country will be tested. “My ministers will take decisions that protect the energy, defense and economic security of the United Kingdom,” added Charles.
The British king said the government will take new steps to improve relations with the European Union. “My ministers will introduce legislation to take advantage of new trade opportunities, including a bill to strengthen ties with the EU,” he added.
Charles further added that the government will seek to improve relations with European partners as a vital step in strengthening European security. “I will continue to promote long-term peace in the Middle East and the two-state solution in Israel and Palestine,” he emphasized.
According to him, the country’s energy security requires long-term investments and reforms, “as recent events in the Middle East have demonstrated.”
