Contacts are being made to stop the ongoing Israeli escalation in Lebanon, on the eve of the third round of talks in Washington between Beirut and Tel Aviv, a senior Lebanese source told Anadolu.
“There are requests for ceasefire guarantees and the issue is being discussed between the relevant parties”, said the source.
The source expressed the hope that “things will go well, despite the ongoing escalation on the ground”.
Israel killed at least 15 people, including two children, and wounded several others on Wednesday in 64 attacks across Lebanon, including aerial bombardment, artillery shelling and wide-ranging operations, in fresh violations of the ceasefire announced on April 17 and scheduled to last until May 17.
Lebanon and Israel held two rounds of talks in Washington on April 14 and 23 in preparation for negotiations peace.
Israel has been waging an extended offensive in Lebanon since March 2, killing 2,896 people, wounding 8,824 others and displacing more than 1.6 million residents, according to official Lebanese data.
