Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi today accused Kuwait of an “illegal” attack on an Iranian ship and the detention of four Iranians in the Persian Gulf, demanding their immediate release, reports Anadolu.

“This illegal act happened near an island used by the US to attack Iran,” Araghchi wrote on the American social platform X.

“We demand the immediate release of our nationals and we reserve the right to respond,” he added.

On Tuesday, Kuwait’s Interior Ministry said four people linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were arrested as they tried to enter the country by sea.

Regional tensions have escalated since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28, prompting retaliation by Tehran against Israel as well as US allies in the Persian Gulf, along with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire came into effect on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, but talks in Islamabad failed to produce a lasting agreement. The ceasefire was later extended by US President Donald Trump without a specific deadline.
