The Embassy of Germany in Pristina has announced changes in the legalization procedures for civil status certificates from Kosovo, which will come into effect on July 1, 2026.
According to the announcement, the embassy will offer expanded services for the legalization of birth, marriage and death certificates issued before February 19, 2013, the date when the central status register was introduced in Kosovo. civil.
The German authorities emphasize that the date of issue of the certificate is not important, but it is required that the original documents have a current note of pre-authorization by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, no older than six months.
According to the embassy, the legalization enables the direct recognition of these documents in the German legal system, facilitating various administrative procedures, including marriages and visa applications.
Also, from September 1 2026, personal status certificates from Kosovo will be accepted for German visa processes only in legalized form.
