Staying too much online increases stress and worsens mood.
According to a Duisburg-Essen study published in the scientific journal Plos One, surfing the Internet is divided into 3 categories based on consumption, and classified into pathological, dangerous and non-problematic.
For two weeks, 900 volunteers were kept under observation by the research group, and it turned out that those with problematic use, which includes the categories of dangerous and pathological, had worsening mood, high stress level, longer usage time and neglect of other aspects of life.
The essence and determining factor is the irresistible impulse to stay longer on the Internet, with video games, social networking or online shopping, which gave a sense of pleasure and liberation, including isolation from real life.
