The acting president, Albulena Haxhiu, has announced the release from office of 18 Serbian judges who resigned in 2022.

“Following the proposal of the Judicial Council of Kosovo, in accordance with the constitutional and legal responsibilities, today I have released from office 18 Serbian judges who resigned in 2022”, Haxhiu wrote on Facebook.

On August 27, the Judicial Council of Kosovo rejected the request of judges and staff from the Serbian community to withdraw their resignations from the judicial system in 2022. The KJC proposed to Haxhiu, the release of these judges from their duties.

After the decision of the KJC, the European Union also reacted, expressing “deep regret”.

The EU requested that the issue of the reintegration of judges and prosecutors Serbian resignation to be resolved within the dialogue.

Before the KJC, the same decision was made by the Prosecutorial Council.

About 130 judges, prosecutors and administrative employees of the justice system had resigned at the end of November 2022, in the context of the collective departure of Serbs from Kosovo institutions in the four municipalities in the north of the country.
