Tensions rise again: Iran suspends talks with the US

Iran’s negotiating team is suspending the exchange of messages with the US through intermediaries due to Israeli attacks in Lebanon, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

The Iranian negotiating team will suspend “negotiations and the exchange of messages through intermediaries,” the agency reported.

Tasnim said the situation in Lebanon was crucial to the ceasefire, meaning that “the ceasefire has been violated on all fronts, including Lebanon.”

“There will be no dialogue” until Iran and Hezbollah’s positions on the issue are respected, Tasnim reported, adding that Iranian officials are demanding an end to the Israeli offensive and a full withdrawal from the occupied territories.

In addition, Iran has now completely blocked the Strait of Hormuz, Tasnim reported. Tehran previously claimed it was allowing certain ships to pass through key shipping corridors on Iranian terms.

Also, the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean, will be blocked by the “resistance front”.

Iran is an ally of the Houthi group in Yemen, a country that borders the strait. /square
