The UN expressed deep concern over the escalation of violence in southern Lebanon despite a US-brokered ceasefire, calling on all parties to “respect the cessation of hostilities”, reports Anadolu.

“We are deeply concerned by the escalation of military activities in southern Lebanon and beyond,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at the daily briefing on press.

“Israeli warnings of imminent attacks in the southern suburbs of Beirut are very worrying and have increased fear and uncertainty among the population in Lebanon”, Dujjaric stressed.

He reiterated that “civilians and civilian infrastructure should not be the object of attacks” and called on all actors to “respect the cessation of hostilities and avoid further escalation”.

“We “We condemn any loss of civilian life. There is no alternative to a diplomatic solution to break the cycle of violence and achieve lasting stability on both sides of the blue line,” he said. that went into effect on April 17, which was then extended for 45 days after indirect talks brokered by the US.

According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, attacks since March 2 have killed more than 3,400 people across the country.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently ordered the deepening of the incursion, while Israeli forces have taken control of the strategic Beaufort Fort.

A one of Iran’s conditions for an agreement to finally end the war with the US is to stop fighting on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
