NATO’s commitment to security in Kosovo remains unwavering. This is what the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Radmila Shekerinska, has stated, who emphasized that the allies are ready and determined to help. She said that they have good cooperation with local security institutions, from which capacities, knowledge and expertise have been built.
The alliance is committed to supporting Kosovo as a country of strategic importance. In Brussels, where the defense ministers of the NATO member countries met, attention was also given to Kosovo.
The Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Radmila Shekerinska, in an interview for RTK, praised the cooperation with the security institutions in Kosovo. She has reconfirmed that the support to continue further is indisputable.
“A number of ministers, especially from the Western Balkans, but also those involved in our missions in the region, addressed the issue of the Balkans. They all emphasized the need to maintain attention and vigilance, because the Western Balkans is of strategic importance for the Alliance. We appreciate the cooperation we have had with the security institutions. We believe that our commitment has brought positive results”, she stated she.
After the events of 2023, when KFOR personnel were attacked, and immediately after those attacks we increased our presence, declared Shekerinska.
“Now that the situation has stabilized, since January we have stopped rotating deployments and will have a more optimized presence. This also shows that the institutions responsible for security have become more capable and that our mission can be accomplished with a smaller number of troops. Secretary General was very clear in his press conference, saying that our commitment to KFOR remains unwavering”, she declared.
From the beginning, 27 years ago, the goal of KFOR, according to her, has been to guarantee security and stability for all the people living there, to ensure freedom of movement and to create a safer environment for the entire region.
“The Supreme Allied Commander has assessed that, since the situation is stable, KFOR can be optimized. The mission must be adapted to its purpose, therefore there will be a process of optimizing KFOR. The fact that we are present and that our allies remain committed shows that our vigilance and commitment are very strong”, said Radmila Shekerinska, Deputy Secretary General of NATO. The Deputy Secretary said that the Alliance is ready to continue supporting Kosovo’s path in other important processes according to her, the allies also expect concrete results from the dialogue.
She underlined that the best way to contribute to regional and global peace is for each country to do its own tasks: solve problems, invest in good bilateral and neighboring relations and strengthen democracy and the rule of law.

“We will continue our commitment Our recent decisions clearly show that the Allies are ready and determined to help, which can pave the way for an even better cooperation with the Kosovo Police. This is how a safer environment is created, she said. to guarantee the security and interests of citizens and the entire region.
“We must be very clear: KFOR’s goal is to support the dialogue mediated by the European Union between Pristina and Belgrade. Only through this political process can long-term peace be ensured. We, together with the representative of the EU, Sorensen, believe that the focus should be on concrete results from this dialogue. Unresolved issues must be addressed, because this will bring more security and prosperity”, declared Shekerinska.
On the other hand, the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, after meetings with the ministers of the member countries of the Alliance, said that Kosovo is an important partner, despite the fact that some countries do not recognize Kosovo, positively evaluating the improvement of the security situation in the country.
