The Chief State Prosecutor, Zejnulla Gashi, has participated in the meeting for the exchange of experiences on financial investigations, confiscation in cases of corruption and the functions of the Office for the Return of Persons organized by the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor, UNDP, UNODC and the Basel Institute for Governance.

During his speech, the Chief State Prosecutor evaluated this meeting as a good opportunity to increase cooperation between countries participants, as well as to exchange experiences, expertise, practices and knowledge according to the highest professional standards related to financial investigations, sequestration, confiscation of assets, as well as the return of assets.

In this regard, Chief Prosecutor Gashi has emphasized that in order to succeed in the fight against corruption and other complex crimes, not only criminal prosecution is sufficient, but also the development of financial investigations as well as the tracking, seizure and confiscation of assets originating from criminal activity.

“Property obtained in an illegal manner must be traced, seized and confiscated definitively and the income obtained in an illegal manner returned to the state and to the victims who have suffered from criminal activities”, stated the Chief State Prosecutor, among other things. The Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime in Albania (SPAK) and prosecutors from the Sarajevo Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as leaders of the Asset Recovery Offices from Kosovo, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
