Chinese President Xi: Taiwan’s reunification with China is unstoppable

Chinese President Xi Jinping said Taiwan’s reunification with China is “unstoppable,” a day after Beijing concluded two days of military exercises around the island, Anadolu reports.

“We Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Strait share a bond of blood and kinship. The reunification of our motherland, a trend of the times, is unstoppable,” Xi said in his New Year’s speech.

Beijing launched on Monday the two-day “Mission of Justice 2025” joint military exercises, days after the US approved a record arms sale worth more than $11 billion to Taipei.

China considers Taiwan a “breakaway province”, while Taipei insists on its independence since 1949.

“The world today is experiencing both change and turmoil, and some regions are still engulfed in war,” he said. Xi.

He pointed out that China’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to reach 140 trillion yuan ($20.01 trillion) in 2025.

“Our economic power, scientific and technological capabilities, defense capabilities and joint national power have reached new heights,” he said. he.

Xi also talked about the country’s technological developments, saying: “Many big models of artificial intelligence are competing in a race for leadership, and advances have been made in our chip research and development.”

He also mentioned the Fujian, the country’s first aircraft carrier equipped with an electromagnetic catapult system, which entered service this year, as well as the development of humanoid robots and drones.

“ all these have turned China into one of the economies with the fastest pace of growth in innovation capabilities,” he said.

In 2026, at the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan, he said China “must focus on our goals and tasks, increase confidence and build momentum to move forward.”

“We must take confident steps to promote high-quality development, let us further deepen reform and full opening-up, bring prosperity to all, and write a new chapter in the history of the Chinese miracle,” Xi added.
