Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today that Ankara is taking transformative steps in the defense sector to ensure regional and global stability, in accordance with the foreign policy principle of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey – “Peace at home, peace in the world”, reports Anadolu.

Mentioning efforts to strengthen internal unity and transformative developments, especially in the defense industry, Erdogan said: “We are in a powerful struggle to ensure stability in our region and beyond”.

He spoke by phone to troops gathered at the Artillery and Missile School Command in the Polatli district of the capital Ankara on New Year’s Eve.

Erdogan highlighted the expansion of Turkey’s domestic arsenal and capabilities, including Altay tanks, Firtina cannons, ATAK helicopters, armed and unarmed drones, long-range missiles, defense systems aircraft, warships, submarines and unmanned marine vehicles.

“We are taking a big step forward in all areas of defense,” he said, stressing that the country is using its own resources to build an independent military infrastructure.

Despite “serious challenges and obstacles,” Erdogan said Turkey has seized a “historic opportunity” to turn its recent gains into lasting achievements.

President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to further strengthen the country and leave a “new, strong and great Turkey” to future generations.
