The European Union Council has approved today the Stabilization and Association Agreement between Kosovo and the European Union.

The SAA approval in the EU Council marks the completion of the Stabilization and Association Agreement process and opens the way for the SAA signing on 27th October in Strasbourg.

SAA foresees the establishment of contractual relations between Kosovo and the European Union and it represents the first formal step towards full membership in the EU.

Minister of European Integration Bekim Çollaku said today’s approval was a historic moment for Kosovo adding that ‘it opens a new page towards the ultimate goal of Kosovo’s membership in the EU.’

“All institutions have worked extremely hard for this day to come. SAA negotiation process started in 2013 and I would like to thank all state institutions for their work during the SAA negotiations as well as our international partners for the support provided,” said Çollaku.

MSA contains 597 pages, in X titles, VII annexes and 5 protocols.

Ministry for European Integration has done all the legal preparations for the SAA signing and its further processing for ratification in the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo.
