France warned that the world is becoming “more dangerous”, citing Russia’s war in Ukraine, tensions with the US and China’s trade practices as it called for strengthening European sovereignty and speeding up action at the EU level, reports Anadolu.
“We are entering a more dangerous world. The threat from Russia and its aggressive war against Ukraine on our doorstep, China’s commercial aggression and the US turns its back and is sometimes targeting us”, said the French Minister for European Affairs, Benjamin Haddad, for the television “France 2”.
Haddad referred to the tensions related to Greenland as an example of the deterioration of relations with Washington. “We saw this with the episode of Greenland”, said the French minister.
He emphasized that these developments highlight the need for Europe to protect its interests and invest in sovereignty, both at the national level and at the level of the European Union.
“The conclusions we must draw are to protect our interests, be strong and invest in our sovereignty, both at the national and European level”, he said, adding that France is promotes this message within Europe.
Haddad cited the EU’s financial measures, including a 150 billion euro credit initiative, saying the bloc must speed up its response. “We will move forward, we will accelerate,” he said, adding that Europe must “listen and draw conclusions”.
