Pep Guardiola's agent has denied reports that the Spaniard will move to Turkey, where he would reunite with former rival and Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah at Trabzonspor. The Spaniard's agent has been contacted to verify these reports and has confirmed that Guardiola will not return to management during the 2026/27 season, denying rumors of a move to Trabzonspor. It was reported yesterday that Guardiola had been offered a salary. e fat €13 million from Turkish Super League side Trabzonspor, which would see him manage former Premier League rivals Salah. The Spaniard has previously spoken highly of the Egyptian; when both left their respective clubs last season, Guardiola made a video message for the Liverpool icon, expressing his admiration. "He was a headache. Salah, [Andrew] Robertson, all these players deserve my great respect," said the former Manchester City coach. "I think the way we played, [Manchester] City, it was perfect for them. The space at the back and the fantastic crosses with [Trent] Alexander-Arnold, with Robertson," continued Guardiola, reflecting on their famous Premier League rivalry. According to AS newspaper, the Spaniard's agent has since confirmed: "Pep will not manage any club or national team this season", amid reports that Guardiola could replace the Premier League with the Turkish Super League. Since Salah's transfer, Trabzonspor have become an economic superpower in Turkey – and are in a good position to break Galatasaray's unbroken dominance of the Super League title race. Their rivals are aiming for history in Turkish football's elite: a trophy of five in a row, which would bring the number of Galatasaray Super League titles to 27. Since its establishment, 78 teams have participated in this competition, while only six of them have lifted the trophy. Trabzonspor, who have seven titles, are the only team outside Istanbul to have won more than one Super Lig title. If Guardiola had chosen to manage in Turkey – something he could still do after the 2026/27 season – then his journey with Trabzonspor may have been similar to what he experienced in the Premier League. With Manchester City, the Spaniard lifted his team from a team that rarely won the English top flight to one that already has the second most titles in Premier League history. Guardiola was said to be earning more than £20m a year at the Cityzens, compared to the reported €13m he offered Trabzonspor look much less likely. Since leaving Liverpool – where he ended his time at Anfield as the club's top scorer and assist-giver in Premier League history – the Egyptian has enjoyed football in the Turkish Super League. In three games as a starter for Trabzonspor in the Championship, Salah has scored four goals and provided one assist. Two of those contributions came last week, when his side demolished Gençlerbirligi 5-0 at Papara Park. The Turkish side are fourth in the Super League table, with their home game against Galatasaray next Saturday. This evening, Salah's side face Konyaspor at 18:00 UK time. Things have not always gone smoothly for the Egyptian, who was on the pitch for both of Trabzonspor's two-legged Europa League qualifiers. Against Hungarian side Ferencvaros, Salah's side suffered an embarrassing 5-0 aggregate defeat. In the second leg, which ended 4–0 to the opponents, the then coach and former Trabzonspor player, Faith Tekke, resigned after the match. The club's board did not accept his resignation; however, after a 2-1 away defeat to newly-promoted Amed, in which Salah scored the first goal, Tekke was allowed to leave. Huseyin Cimsir led the deep win over Gençlerbirlig last weekend and will stay in charge of the team until Trabzonspor finds a permanent coach. With a win this evening, Salah's team is expected to climb to second position in the Superliga table. Their search for a new manager, with Guardiola out until the end of 2027, continues.
